According to Divernet, the liveaboard New Dream (formerly Orion), operated by Hurghada-based Mirage Marine Fleet, struck a coral reef at around 1am on 7 June 2023 while travelling by night toward Marsa Alam to get a diver with suspected decompression illness to port, still three hours out. The hull cracked and the vessel flooded to upper-deck level. Twenty-six Polish divers plus eight crew and two guides took to two tenders and waited around four hours before being spotted and rescued by another liveaboard, Enjoy, at first light. No serious injuries were reported, including for the diver with suspected decompression illness.

ERA5 reanalysis via Open-Meteo, sampled 17 km from the recorded position. Modelled conditions across the whole day, not an observation at the vessel: a grid this coarse averages away the localised squall or wave a report may describe. Not a statement of cause.
