According to Divernet, DIVE Magazine, and The Scuba News, the 27m liveaboard Sea Spirit, operated by Hurghada-based Luxury Divers, took on water and sank off Ras Ghareb in the Gulf of Suez on the evening of 14 July 2026. Five crew were aboard and no guests; a Mayday was picked up by Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company and Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation staff, and all crew were initially reported rescued without injury. A single local outlet later quoted Red Sea Governor Walid El Barqy saying one crew member had died of an apparent electric shock after being brought ashore; Divernet's own reporting describes this death as unconfirmed, and no authority had confirmed the person's identity or cause of death as of the cited reporting. On 15 July 2026, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported that the Ras Ghareb prosecution had opened an investigation into the sinking and the death of one crew member by electric shock, naming the deceased, citing medical sources in the Red Sea Governorate, as Hammam Abdel-Shafiq Abdel-Monsef, a mechanic; Egypt Independent carried the same report in English. The fatality count here follows that reporting.

ERA5 reanalysis via Open-Meteo, sampled 22 km from the recorded position. Modelled conditions across the whole day, not an observation at the vessel: a grid this coarse averages away the localised squall or wave a report may describe. Not a statement of cause.
